Highlights on Hanover ~ A Positive Look at Negative Times
“Times are tough, but babies are a blessing,” said a young pregnant visitor to our center. The woman, facing hardships herself, accompanied a relative to CAFLC. Her statement reminded us of the way we’ve been looking at our mission as it relates to the ongoing economic crisis. Since late 2007, our center has seen more clients than ever before. We have helped 1,382 clients so far this year, compared to a total of 1,278 last year, and the year is not quite over. We are still seeing the effects of the recession on our clients. In the last few months, we’ve helped several homeless or near homeless clients, some of whom have been pregnant. In fact, the number of pregnant and homeless women has risen dramatically as well as the number of homeless families.Carlisle C.A.R.E.S., as of this fall, was helping 70 families, including many children.
In spite of all this, most of our clients rejoice upon finding out another blessing is on the way. Why? Perhaps they know we will be there to help them every step of the way. Perhaps they understand they are carrying a life with potential who deserves to live just as much as they do. Whatever the reason, we are filled with humility and gratitude when someone, like the person quoted above, is facing hard times yet finds the absolutely beautiful silver lining…a baby made in God’s glorious image to love.
Carlisle Area Family Life Center’s mission is to support, educate and give practical assistance, in a loving way, to women and families in need by providing positive alternatives to abortion and by enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their lives and the lives of their unborn children.
